This chapter covers human nature “how much of our human characteristics comes from “nature” and how much
comes from nurture”. The chapter also covers socialization into the self mind and emotions. How people acquire a self
and reasoning skills. The chapter also covers how socialization covers influences emotions. Socialization influences not only
how we express our emotions but also what emotions we feel. This chapter covers how gender socialization affects our sense
of self. The chapter basically shows people and how they fit into a society.
This chapter was about deviance and social control. Deviance is any violation of norms. What people consider deviant varies
from one culture to another and from group to group within the society. All groups develop systems of social control too punish
deviants- those who violate its norms within their culture and group.

This chapter discusses the inequalities of Race and Ethnicity. Race refers to inherited biological characteristics, ethnicity
to cultural ones. Members of ethnic groups identify with one another on the basis of common ancestry and cultural heritage.
People often confuse the terms race and ethnicity.
